ALGIERS – Thursday, 08 June 2023 (APS) – The winners of the 17th President of the Republic’s Ali Maachi Award for Young Creators received their awards Thursday, in Algiers, in a ceremony chaired by President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, marking the National Artist Day.  

The prizes were handed over by the speaker of the Council of the Nation (upper house of Parliament), Salah Goudjil, the speaker of the People’s National Assembly (lower house of Parliament), Brahim Boughali, Prime Minister Aymen Benabderrahmane, General Saïd Chanegriha, the chief of staff of the People’s National Army, and the minister of Culture and Arts, Soraya Mouloudji, handed over the awards to the winners of the second and third awards in each category.

In the novel category, the second prize went to Halim Boukelaibat and the third to Rahmatallah Ourissi, in the poetry category, the prizes went to Abdelkader Laarbi and Bouchra Rahali, while in drama writing, Saddam Hocine Sahraoui and Amar Gouasmia were awarded.

In the theatrical performance the second and third prizes were bestowed on Ouziane Rahmouni and Mokhtar Zaatri, respectively, while the musical creation prize went to Mohamed Oussama Boukerfala and Sabri Azzedine.

Hamdaoui Chahinaz and Chefrak Mohamed Yacine received the second and third prizes in the plastic arts category, while Youcef Bendhina and Khaled Saci got the cinema and audio-visual prizes.

The choreography and dance prizes went to Yacine Bouderbala and Lahcen Anouar Cherif  Boumoussa.

Earlier in the ceremony, the president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, handed over prizes to the first winners in each category.

The jury, chaired by writer and translator Mohamed Sari, includes academicians, writers, poets, musicians and composers.

The ceremony took place at Abdelatif Rahal National Convention Centre, in the presence of senior State officials, members of the government and many artistic and cultural figures.
