ALGIERS – Saturday, 17 June 2023 (APS) – The CEO of the group Sonatrach, Toufik Hakkar, said the exploitation of two hydrocarbon fields in the southwestern part of Hassi Messaoud, Ouargla, was planned to start in 2028 in partnership with Russian company Gazprom, an investment of about one billion dollars.
In an interview granted to the Russian TV channel “RT,” aired Friday evening, as part of the State visit of the president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to the Federation of Russia at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, Hakkar said the group Sonatrach was working with Gazprom for the development of two fields discovered in the perimeter of Oum El Assel (nearly 140 km in the southeast of Hassi Messaoud) through a call of tender for drilling projects and the construction of natural gas processing plants.
“The first production is expected for 2028.”
“Sonatrach and Gazprom have established a development plan they finalized in July 2022, and submitted in the same month to the National Agency for the Development of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT) for adoption,” Hakkar said.
It is a “two-step investment of 950 million dollars for the production of about two million cubic meters of natural gas a day (m3/d), more than 1,000 tonnes/day of condensate and more than 220 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).”
