TUNIS (Tunisia) – Monday, 29 August 2022 (APS) – Algeria took part in the eighth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) held in Tunis on August 27-28.

The conference, held every three years, serves as a platform for multilateral cooperation between Japan and the African Union (AU), associating the United Nations and the World Bank as partners in African development.

The Algerian delegation was led by the minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, accompanied by the special envoy of the minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, in charge of major international partnerships, Leila Zerrougui.

During the discussions, Algeria welcomed the holding of the conference for the second time in an African country and commended the efforts and the leadership of the Tunisian government for the successful organization of the event.

Algeria highlighted the global challenges, such as the slowdown in the world economy, food insecurity, extreme poverty and the rise of terrorism and violent extremism.

Algerian stressed the need to include Africa in dealing with such challenges.
