JEDDAH (Saudi Arabia) – Tuesday, 16 May 2023 (APS) – The Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Affairs Samer Al Khalil commended on Monday Algeria’s efforts during its presidency of the recent Arab Summit which resulted in “a set of decisions” that enshrined Arab unification.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria for the significant efforts made during its presidency of the previous session (Arab Summit), resulting in a set of decisions that mirror the importance of common Arab actions,” said Al Khalil in a statement at the meeting of the Economic and Social Council held in advance of the Arab Summit.
“Generations within our Arab countries have grown up with values of belonging to the Arab nation and the fraternal ties that unite the children of the same nation, a reality that Algiers Summit has highlighted,” he affirmed.
Since assuming the presidency of the Arab League Summit, Algeria has successfully ended Arab conflicts and strengthen unity, resulting in Syria’s return into the Arab organization, renewing dynamism particularly in support of the Palestinian cause which has regained prominence on the international stage, and in the reconciliation among Palestinian factions.
The 31st ordinary session of the Arab Summit, held in Algiers in early November 2022, marked a pivotal moment, since its outcomes emphasized the necessity of Syria’s return to its seat in the Arab League, considering its history and its potential for an added value to the common Arab action.
Under the leadership of President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria has made huge efforts to enable Syria to regain its seat within the Arab League. President Tebboune has consistently emphasized that Syria is a founding member of the organization and cannot be ruled out from its Arab environment. Algeria has used its diplomatic weight and its experience in crisis management to settle disputes and the rapprochement of views until the desired objective is accomplished.
The next Arab Summit will be held on 19 Mai 2023 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
