ALGIERS – Thursday, 18 May 2023 (APS) – National group Sonatrach, through STEP Polymers SPA, a one-hundred percent Sonatrach subsidiary, has awarded a significant petrochemical project in Arzew, Oran (432-km west of Algiers), with a value of USD1.5 billion, to a British-Chinese joint venture Petrofac-HQC.
The petrochemical engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project has been awarded to the joint venture made up of the British leading energy services company Petrofac and petrochemical industry specialist China Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering Corporation (HQC), Sonatrach said Thursday in a statement.
The plant, to be located at the Arzew Industrial Zone, is expected to produce 550.000 tons of polypropylene per year.
The project will be carried out in 42 months, according to Sonatrach’s statement.
