ALGIERS – Wednesday, 03 May 2023 (APS) – Minister of Communication Mohamed Bouslimani went Wednesday to the Press Freedom Square in Algiers, where he paid tribute to the memory of the martyrs of the profession, to mark the Press Freedom Day in the presence of local officials and media representatives.
Bouslimani, accompanied by the wali (governor) of Algiers, Abdennour Rabhi, and the speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Algiers, Nadjia Djilali, laid a wreath at the commemorative stone bearing the names of journalists and media workers killed in some of the darkest moments of Algeria’s history, before reading Al-Fatiha, the first chapter of the Holy Qur’an, in tribute of their memory.
On the sidelines of the commemorative ceremony, the minister congratulated journalists and media workers on the occasion of this day, wishing them further progress and prosperity.
