President Tebboune’s message on occasion of International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

“In the name of Allah, Clement, and Merciful,
Prayers and Peace Be on the Seal of the Prophets,

On the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, I am pleased to extend my warm greetings to them and to emphasize our stable position of principle in support of their struggle to recover their despoiled rights guaranteed by international legality.

The celebration of this day clearly confirms the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to establishment of their independent state with Al-Quds as its capital. It is also an opportunity to remind the international community of its historical, political, legal, moral, and humanitarian responsibilities toward them.

The Palestinian people need to see this international solidarity translated into practical steps and enforceable measures, through a serious and firm stance by the international community, especially the Security Council and the General Assembly, not only to put an end to the occupier’s stubbornness and refusal to respect international legality and decisions but also to speak out effectively and forcefully against the settlement system through which the occupier is undermining all opportunities for the achievement of the two-state solution, thus giving rise to a bitter reality of discrimination and double standards.

We renew, on this occasion, the call for the imperative implementation of the provisions of the Fourth Geneva Convention and other international legal references, based on the principles of accountability and equality before international justice, through the activation of the necessary mechanisms for the judicial and criminal prosecution of the occupier’s increasing abuses and the guarantee of international protection for the defenseless Palestinian people.

Solidarity with the Palestinian people is not just a matter of speeches, but also efforts to reach a lasting solution that will allow these people to live in dignity and sovereignty on their land. It also involves intensifying contributions that can counter attempts to conceal the Palestinian cause.

Algeria has always taken steps, hosting, on this basis, under my direct and personal supervision, rounds of reconciliation between the Palestinian factions, culminating in the adoption of the “Algiers Declaration” which was welcomed by the two Secretaries General of the United Nations (UN), and the Arab League, and by many countries.

This declaration aims at the effective establishment of a real ground putting an end to the dissensions and leading to an adhesion around unified claims to do justice to the Palestinian people and to recover its freedom and its sovereignty, despoiled for several decades.

We committed at the recent Arab Summit held in Algiers to place the Palestinian issue as the first central cause in the current international situation. We stressed our commitment and our absolute support to the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to freedom, self-determination, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the basis of the borders of June 4, 1967, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
