LISBON – Tuesday, 23 May 2023 (APS) – President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune reiterated Tuesday, in Lisbon (Portugal), Algeria’s commitment to the Treaty of friendship, good neighbourliness and cooperation signed in 2005 with the Republic of Portugal, affirming that his talks with President de Sousa were “fruitful, open and honest and enabled strengthening the regular consultations” between the two countries.

 

“We reiterate our commitment to the Treaty of friendship, good neighbourliness and cooperation signed on 8 January 2005,” said President Tebboune in a joint statement to the press with his Portuguese counterpart.

These talks were “fruitful, open and honest and reflected the depth of the political relations,” added President Tebboune, Pointing out that these discussions “enabled strengthening regular consultations mirroring the multifaceted partnership between the two countries, in a complex regional and international environment.”

The President of the Republic extended, on this occasion, his heartfelt congratulations to President de Sousa and to the friendly Portuguese people on the occasion of the celebration on 10 June of their national holiday (Day of Portugal).

He underlined that the two countries will celebrate, within few days, the 210th anniversary of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between the Regency of Algiers and the Kingdom of Portugal (14 June), a Treaty that gave birth to dense and multi-dimensional relations.”
