PEKING – Wednesday, 19 July 2023 (APS) – President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, met Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, Zhao Leji, in Beijing on Wednesday, as part of the State visit he is making to the country at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.
The meeting took place at the People’s Palace in the presence of the large ministerial delegation accompanying President Tebboune, and Algeria’s ambassador to China, Hassan Rabhi.
At the outset of this meeting, President Tebboune expressed his “pride” at meeting at the headquarters of the Great Hall of the People, “witness to the long march of the Chinese people on the road to development and liberation,” reiterating the “excellent” nature of Algerian-Chinese relations.
Recalling the cooperation established between the People’s National Assembly (APN) and the National People’s Assembly of China, and the creation of a friendship group between the two parliamentary institutions, President Tebboune stressed the importance of ” providing more support for this group.”
He also stressed the need to ” increase coordination and the exchange of visits,” particularly in terms of the strong relations between the two countries, and called for the creation of a “consultation body” between the elected representatives of the two peoples.
“Algeria supports China’s decisions at international level,” said President Tebboune, welcoming at the same time China’s “support for Algeria’s decisions.”
“I hope to see close coordination between Algeria and China at the UN Security Council level,” he said.
The President of the Republic then recalled “the liberation ideology that has not changed in Algeria, which won its independence at the cost of heavy sacrifices.”
For his part, Zhao Leji hailed “the progress made by Algeria in recent years under the leadership of President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirming China’s willingness to work with Algeria “to further develop their overall strategic relationship.”
