ALGIERS – Tuesday, 04 July 2023 (APS) – The president of the Republic, commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, minister of National Defence, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, chaired Tuesday at the Palace of the People, in Algiers, the annual ceremony for rank and medal awarding to the officers of the People’s National Army.

Held on the eve of the celebration of the 61st anniversary of the recovery of national sovereignty, the ceremony took place in the presence of top State official, including the speaker of the Council of the Nation (upper house of Parliament), Salah Goudjil, the speaker of the People’s National Assembly (lower house of Parliament), Brahim Boughali, Prime Minister Aymen Benabderrahmane, and the president of the Constitutional Court, Omar Belhadj.

The ceremony was also attended by the chief of staff of the People’s National Army, General Saïd Chanegriha, the minister of State, advisor to the president of the Republic, Abdelaziz Khellaf, the chief of staff of the presidency of the Republic, Mohamed Ennadir Larbaoui, the advisors to the president of the Republic, members of the Government, Army senior officers, as well as national personalities and mujahideen.

President Tebboune awarded the rank of Major General to many Brigadier Generals, the rank of Brigadier Generals to Colonels, and the rank of Colonel to Lieutenant Colonels.

He also awarded medals to a number of military executives and civilian personnel under presidential decrees dated 27 June 2023.

Upon his arrival at the Palace of the People, President Tebboune was welcomed by the chief of staff of the People’s National Army, General Saïd Chanegriha, and the commander of the Republican Guard, General Benali Benali.

After listening to the national anthem at the entrance to the Palace of the People, the president of the Republic reviewed a detachment of the Republican Guard, who gave him the honours, and greeted the senior officers of the Army
