ALGIERS – Saturday, 05 August 2023 (APS) – President of the Republic, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of the National Defense Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired Saturday, at the National Circle of the Army in Beni Messous (Algiers), the ceremony marking the 2nd anniversary of the National Day of the People’s National Army.

 

This ceremony was organized in honor of the retired military members, the families of the martyrs of the national duty, as well as disabled and severely wounded members of the army in the fight against terrorism.

Upon his arrival in the National Circle of the Army, the President of the Republic was welcomed by the Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, General Said Chanegriha, where a military detachment gave him the honors.

This ceremony was marked by the presence of the speaker of the Council of the Nation, the speaker of the People’s National Assembly, the Chairman of the Connotational Court, the Prime minister, advisers of the President of the Republic, members of the Government, the Army General Commander of the Republican Guard, Secretary General of the National Defense Ministry, the Commanders of the Forces and of the National Gendarmerie, the head of the departments, directors and central heads of departments of the National Defense Ministry and of the general staff of the People’s National Army, the State’s top officials as well as national personalities and mujahedeen.

On this occasion, General Said Chanegriha made a speech in which he welcomed the President of the Republic, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of the National Defense, thanking him for supervising this ceremony.

“At first, I am pleased to offer my sincere expressions of welcome as well as my thanks and gratitude to the President of the Republic, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of the National Defense, for honoring us today by chairing this ceremony of celebration of the 2nd anniversary of the National Army Day.  I would like also to welcome the distinguished personalities present here,” he said.

General Chanegriha underlined that the institution by the President of the Republic of the National Day of the People’s National Army “reflects the deepest meanings of faithfulness and gratitude towards the sacrifices of the staff and officers of the People’s National Army, worthy heir to the National Liberation Army (ALN), from the independence until today.”

“This date has marked a new brilliant phase in the history of our beloved country, namely the transformation of the National Liberation Army, with all its values of sacrifice, bravery, faithfulness and loyalty into the People’s National Army,” he affirmed.

“This date is also meant to be an opportunity to pay tribute to the heroes of the independent Algeria, among those who sacrificed their lives to protect the Republic and those who made all the sacrifices to stand against the barbaric and obscurantist terrorism,” he stressed.

For him, “the institution of this Day by the President of the Republic reflects the deepest meanings of faithfulness and gratitude towards the sacrifices of the staff and officers of the People’s National Army, worthy heir to the National Liberation Army (ALN), from the independence until today, as well as their active contribution, alongside other institutions of the State, to the building and development of the independent and sovereign Algerian State.”

At the end of his speech, General Chanegriha extended “his congratulations and greetings to the President of the Republic and all the staffs of the People’s National Army deployed nationwide, urging them to make further efforts for Algeria and its brave people.”
