ALGIERS – Monday, 07 March 2022 (APS) -President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune said on Monday that the 2020 Constitution had consolidated the gains of Algerian women who have proven the ability to hold high state positions.

“The Constitution amended in 2020 has enshrined the principle of parity between the two sexes in all areas, whether professional or electoral, as well as the protection of women against all forms of violence in all areas and circumstances in the public life and the labour market. This iqualitative leap has strengthened the gains of the Algerian women who have imposed themselves and proved their ability to hold high positions within the state,” said the President of the Republic in a message read on his behalf by the Prime Minister, Aimene Benabderrahmane by videoconference ahead of the celebration of International Women’s Day, in coordination with the League of Arab States under the theme “The Arab woman…Singularity and Aspiration”.

President Tebboune seized this opportunity to “thank all Arab women working in the field of healthcare for their efforts to contain the Coronavirus (Covid-19).”

The head of state recalled that International Women’s Day “comes this year in unusual conditions that we have been living for two years like the rest of the world, marked by the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic for healthcare systems, society and economy.”

“Several Arab women have made achievements in various fields, deservedly distinguishing themselves with regional and international awards,” he stressed.

“Such achievements reflect the interest given by the leaders of Arab countries to women, particularly through the promulgation of legislation for their promotion and empowerment,” continued President Tebboune.
