ALGIERS – Tuesday, 28 November 2023 (APS) – The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune sent Tuesday a message on the eve of the celebration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (November 29), translated by APS:

“In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful,

May the prayers of Allah be upon the last of the Prophets and Messengers, we celebrate today the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in particular and painful conditions marked by the aggression of the barbaric occupier against the Gaza Strip and the occupied territories.

On this occasion, we reaffirm Algeria’s constant commitment to supporting the legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people and their just cause to recover all their inalienable and non-negotiable rights, foremost among which is their right to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with Al Quds Al Sharif as its capital, in accordance with United Nations (UN) resolutions and relevant international references.

We bow with deference to the heavy sacrifices of the Palestinian people and their prolonged suffering from the plots and hardships that have targeted their land, unity and holy places, and pay tribute to this resilient people despite all the heinous violations they face, and the desperate attempts to liquidate their cause and abort the foundations on which any solution to end the occupation and the tragedy of the Palestinian brothers might rest.

This day of solidarity comes at a time when the Palestinian people, in all parts of their land and particularly in the Gaza Strip, are facing horrific criminal aggression aimed at ethnically eliminating them.

The Zionist occupation, which has failed to extinguish the flame of struggle in the heart of this resistant people, is attempting this time, by committing heinous crimes in the rank of crimes against humanity, apartheid and crimes of extermination, to eliminate it existentially.

It is a situation that adds to the iniquitous siege imposed on the Gaza Strip, and constitutes a perseverance in murder, destruction, the provocation of famine and despair, against the principles of humanity.

All this is happening while the international community and the specialized bodies of the United Nations shamefully and gravely fail to stop the war machine unleashed against a defenseless people. This places upon us, the promoters of just peace, the responsibility to redouble our efforts, to work to ensure that the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter prevail, to provide the necessary protection for the Palestinian people, to put an end to the historic injustice of which they are the victims, and to mobilize immediately to save the peace process, which is experiencing an unprecedented stalemate.

This will only be possible if we force the occupation to comply with the resolutions of international legality, to commit itself to respecting the rules of international law, and to make progress in strengthening the legal and diplomatic gains of the Palestinian people, notably by stepping up efforts to enable Palestine to obtain full membership of the United Nations.

On this occasion, I reiterate Algeria’s categorical rejection of all attempts to erase this just cause, whether through the imposition of the fait accompli policy through which the occupation attempts to undermine the identity of the Islamic and Christian holy places in the occupied territories, or to change their demographic composition through its colonization policies, or attempts to circumvent the truths of history and legality through fictitious agreements that will change nothing to the substance of the question. Attempts whose fate, as all past historical experience has confirmed, is doomed to disappear.

In conclusion, I would like to emphasize that Algeria, which paid a high price to recover its sovereignty and independence, and whose land witnessed the proclamation of the Palestinian State thirty-five years ago, will remain faithful to its commitment to support the causes of liberation, and will spare no effort to support the resistance of the Palestinian people until the full recovery of all their rights.

May the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you”.
