ALGIERS – Saturday, 25 March 2023 (APS) – The president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on Friday had a phone conversation with President Emmanuel Macron of France about a number of issues of common interest, the presidency of the Republic said in a statement.

“President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune had Friday afternoon a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron about a number of issues of common interest, including the way a national holder of dual citizenship, Algerian and French, was exfiltrated by French consular services from Tunisia, on 6 February 2023,” the statement said.

“The phone conversation helped to remove many ambiguities about the issue” that had created dissension between the two countries, the statement said.

The two leaders agreed on “enhancing the means of communication between the administrations of both countries, to prevent such situations.”

The president of the Republic “informed his French counterpart of the upcoming return of Algeria’s ambassador to Paris.”

The two presidents also discussed “the bilateral relations and the different ways to implement (the Declaration of Algiers), signed between the two countries during President Macron’s visit to Algeria last August.”

In addition, the phone conversation was an opportunity “to examine ways and means to boost and promote cooperation between the two countries, including the president of the Republic’s State visit to France, and discuss regional and international issues of common interest,” the statement concluded.
