ALGIERS – Tuesday, 21 November 2023 (APS) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan affirmed Tuesday, in Algiers, that his country is driven by a real willingness to continue the efforts and take the necessary steps to strengthen its cooperation with Algeria in various fields.

“We have strengthened the bases of our bilateral relations through agreements and memoranda if understanding signed today in various fields,” said the President Erdogan in a press conference held jointly with the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune following the signing ceremony of the joint Declaration of the 2nd Algerian-Turkish High-Level Cooperation Council.

He also emphasized the necessity of continuing the joint efforts in order to take “further steps in various aspects of our bilateral relations, including trade, energy, environment and culture.”

Turkish President dubbed “fruitful” his talks with President Tebboune, that enabled discussing” the steps to take in order to develop our relations and ensure the follow-up of projects implemented in this regard.”

As regards the “strategic” character of the Algerian-Turkish High-Level Cooperation Council, the President Erdogan underlined that it mirrored the level of cooperation between the two countries and their privileged relations.

He also pointed out the volume of trading between the two countries, expressing his wish to see it reaching USD10 billion in the future.

President Erdogan welcomed Algeria’s efforts in “mobilizing its economic capacities, by diversifying its activities, under the leadership of President Tebboune,” affirming that “about 1400 Turkish companies have joined this move.”

In this regard, he expressed his country’s willingness to increase the volume of investments in Algeria, adding that the signing of “the agreement on the encouragement and mutual protection of investments as soon as possible will contribute to the promotion of investments.”
