ALGIERS – Saturday, 13 May 2023 (APS) – Political parties and associations condemned, on Friday, the European Parliament (EP) resolution on freedom of expression in Algeria, describing as “a blatant slip and interference” in Algeria’s affairs.

The National Liberation Front (FLN) party expressed its “deep indignation” at the content of the EP resolution, which contains elements that are “totally unfounded, erroneous and far from the truth about the reality of the political process in Algeria and the opening up of the field of freedoms, associative and trade union activity, the media scene and rights”.

This resolution “is a blatant interference in Algeria’s internal affairs by a foreign authority that has set itself up as a guardian of a free, independent and sovereign state that refuses to submit to external diktats”, the party said, adding that the Algerian people are the only ones who have the right to judge their country’s policies and decide on its present and future, just as they categorically refuse the fact that the EP or any other party (…) arrogates to itself the right to interfere in Algeria’s affairs through a provocative, selective resolution that lacks objectivity.
