ALGIERS –  Thursday, 06 July 2023 (APS) – On behalf of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Prime Minister, Aimene Benabderrahmane chaired the opening of the 15th Arab Sports Games organized by Algeria from on 5-15 July at Mohamed-Boudiaf Olympic Complex in Algiers, with the participation of nearly 2,000 athletes representing 22 Arab countries.

 

“I am pleased and honored to open this major Arab sporting event on behalf of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. I welcome our dear Arab brothers to Algeria, their 2nd country, to take part alongside their brothers in the competitions of the 15th Pan-Arab Games, which coincide with the date on which our country celebrates the 61st anniversary of its independence over its blessed land,” said the Prime Minister in a speech delivered on this occasion.

“Our country successfully contributed to the reunification of the ranks of our Arab nation by hosting, on November 1 last year, the Arab Summit which coincided with the date of the outbreak of our glorious Revolution and the struggle of our valiant people who made immeasurable sacrifices for its liberation from the colonial yoke,” the PM affirmed.

“Here we are today, proudly hosting the Arab Sports Games, driven by the desire to contribute, through this major sporting event, to strengthening the bonds of cooperation and friendship between our peoples and our countries, which have the capacities and potential to be a striking force in this world where there is no place for the weak.”

“Keen to ensure the smooth running of this edition, worthy of the Arab brothers, we have worked, under the aegis of President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune and on his judicious instructions, to make this 15th edition of the Arab Sports Games the most successful ever, in line with the expectations of the participating sports delegations and the Arab peoples, and on a par with international sporting competitions. Five cities have been selected for their historical, cultural, and tourist attractions: Algiers, Oran, Constantine, Annaba and Tipaza”, he continued.

To ensure the success of this Arab event, “Algeria has mobilized all the necessary means and infrastructures to welcome delegations from 22 Arab countries, 3,000 athletes and coaches in all disciplines, including those dedicated to people with special needs.”
