ALGIERS – Monday, 20 February 2023 (APS) – More than 130 national and foreign companies are participating in the 2nd International Fair of Agrifood and Packaging “AgroPack Expo” which kicked off on Monday at the International Center of Conferences (CIC) of Algiers.

This fair, which will be held until Thursday, is the opportunity for the economic operators to exchange and inquire into the latest news of the agrifood industry and the packaging sector, notably concerning raw material, equipment and technologies used to promote this industry, promote the investments, implement international partnerships and improve the quality of the national products, according to the event’s organizers.

Chairing the opening of the Fair, on behalf of Minister of Industry Ahmed Zaghdar, teh Secretary General of the Ministry Salah-Eddine Belbrik stressed the importance of the agrifood sector, which counts currently more than 170,000 direct and indirect jobs and more than USD500 of exports.

It is a strategic sector to which the local authorities attach a great interest, he added, as witnessed by the financing facilities from which it benefits.

In this respect, the official called for the creation of a professional food processing cluster which contributes, he said, to the organization of the sector and the strengthening of dialogue with the professionals to reach solutions likely to develop this activity, notably in the light of surpluses recorded in the agricultural production.
