ORAN – Friday, 08 September 2023 (APS) – The Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun affirmed Thursday in Oran that the “FIAT” car plant will start production by the end of 2023, in line with set deadlines.

In a statement to the press on the sidelines of an inspection visit to the project, located in the Tafraoui industrial zone, the Minister said that construction work was progressing according to schedule, and expressed his optimism that the first FIAT-brand vehicle would leave the plant on schedule in December.

Accompanied by the Wali of Oran, Said Sayoud, Algeria’s Ambassador to Italy, Abdelkrim Touahria, the Chairman of the plant’s Board of Directors, Hakim Boutehra, and the plant’s General Manager, Sergey Vasilyev, Ali Aoun enquired about the progress of work.

The Minister stated that “the FIAT vehicle plant is considered to be the first of its kind abroad at 100 per cent Its success is proof of Algeria’s openness to foreign investment,” stressing that the field is open to foreign investors, whether purely foreign or in partnership with national companies.

Plant managers gave an overview of the project, for which the rate of progress has reached 75%, and stated that its production capacity is estimated at 90,000 vehicles per year.

Three types of vehicles (models) will be produced up to 2026. The fourth type will be produced in 2029.

125 workers have been hired, and this number is set to rise to 300 by the end of the current year, with a further 300 expected to be taken on in 2024.
