ALGIERS – Wednesday, 27 December 2023 (APS) – Niger’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Nigeriens Abroad, Yaou Bakary Sangaré, welcomed Tuesday, in Algiers, the quality of the relations between Algeria and his country, underlining the joint projects and the role always played by Algeria in the resolution of his country’s crises.

In a statement to the press, following a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ahmed Attaf, Niger’s minister underlined the cooperation between the two countries and the possibilities to strengthen it, noting that the two sides discussed, in their meeting, a certain number of joint projects, mainly the trans-Saharan project to open up a certain number of African countries and facilitate exchanges at the continental level.

Bakary Sangaré dwelled on the political situation in the Niger and the role played by Algeria which has also stand by his country.

“Algeria has always stood by Niger in all the crises that the country went through in the past,” he affirmed. “We have always been satisfied with the way Algeria has played the role of mediation with good offices every time there is a problem in Niger,” he added.

“We are today mediating with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and I came here to review the developments with my Algerian brother and to explain to him the dynamic in which we are currently,” he said.

“The mediation with ECOWAS is on the right track, we hope to overcome this situation as soon as possible and that we reach a prompt solution to the crisis regarding the situation we are currently going through,” he added.

The hoped-for exit from the crisis “will allow us to focus on the work awaiting us for the return to constitutional order and for the development actions of our country,” concluded the head of the Nigerien diplomacy.
