ALGIERS – Thursday, 25 August 2022 (APS) – The minister Foreign and European Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn, expressed Wednesday in Algiers his wish for a “solution” to Western Sahara issue, deploring that the conflict has brought the region to a standstill.

“It is a great honour for me to be received by President Tebboune. We have tackled the situation in other Maghreb countries and we wish that the new UN special envoy for Western Sahara, Staffan De Mistura, would find a solution to the conflict, which has brought the region to a standstill,” Asselborn told reporters following the audience granted to him by President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The minister also expressed the wish to “work with Algeria,” adding that “Luxembourg is part of the Benelux created during World War II and which paved the way for the European Union.”

In addition to Western Sahara, the two sides discussed the situation in

Mali and the Arab League Summit, scheduled for November 1st and 2nd in Algiers.
