ALGIERS – Wednesday, 13 September 2023 (APS) – Minister of Transportation in the Government of National Unity, Mohamed Salem al-Chahoubi, has expressed gratitude to the Algerian people and leaders for the support provided to his country following the devastating floods that hit many cities, causing hundreds of deaths and injuries.

Speaking at the end of an audience granted by the chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Younes al-Menfi, to the minister of the Interior and Local Authorities, Brahim Merad, in the presence of the minister of Health, Abdelhak Saihi, the minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Affairs, Kaouter Krikou, the head of the Algerian Red Crescent, Ibtissam Hamlaoui, Al-Chahoubi thanked the Algerian leaders, government and people for their support to the Libyan people, mentioning the arrival of a fleet of aircraft carrying mainly fully equipped rescue teams.

“The Algerian leaders, government and people have always been beside their Libyan brothers. We consider Algeria as our big sister, as we have the same destiny,” he said.

Merad, for his part, said “we had to support (our Libyan brothers) at the instructions of  the president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who sent us as a ministerial delegation to extend our condolences to the chairman (of the Presidential Council), the government and the people of Libya.”
