ALGIERS – Wednesday, 01 June 2022 (APS) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ramtane Lamamra received Tuesday the European Union (EU) Special Representative for the Sahel Emanuela Claudia Del Re who is on a working visit to Algeria as part of the political dialogue on peace and security issues in Africa, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
“The discussions focused on prospects to strengthen the cooperation between Algeria and EU for the promotion of peace and security in Africa, particularly in the Sahel-Saharan region which is facing immense political, security and economic challenges. The objective is to promote African solutions to Africa’s issues, with a more active support of foreign partners, notably EU,” said the source.
The ministry said that “the two sides also broached the situation in Mali in the light of the ongoing efforts aimed at revitalizing the process of the implementation of the peace and reconciliation agreement stemming from Algiers process and reaching a consensus on the transition period for the restoration of a democratic constitutional order in this country.”
“In this regard, the EU special representative for the Sahel welcomed Algeria’s important role in its double capacity as the leader of the international mediation and the head of the Monitoring Committee of the Agreement, as well as its sincere commitment to a united, stable, democratic and prosperous Mali,” said the source.
“The two sides agreed on the necessity of strengthening dialogue and consultations between Algeria and EU on these issues of common interest and to increase contacts at all the levels, “concluded the source.
