ALGIERS – Tuesday, 08 March 2022 (APS) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra held talks Tuesday in Cairo with the Secretary-General (SG) of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul-Gheit. They agreed to intensify efforts and strengthen coordination to ensure the success of the next Arab Summit scheduled in Algiers, Algeria’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra held talks Tuesday in Cairo with the Secretary-General (SG) of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul-Gheit. They discussed the main items on the agenda of the 157th session of the Ministerial Council of the League of the Arab States whose work will begin tomorrow Wednesday, March 9,” said the source.

The agenda of the current session, which will be marked by the transfer of the presidency of the Council of the State of Kuwait to the Republic of Lebanon, includes “several important topics related to the preparations for the upcoming Arab Summit in Algiers and developments on the regional and international scene.”

Other administrative issues such as the appointment of assistant secretaries-general at the General Secretariat of the Arab League are also on the agenda, the statement said.

Besides, the two sides focused on “the challenges facing the Arab countries, especially in a context marked by tensions and polarization characterizing international relations at present,” as well as “the prospects for boosting joint Arab action in the best interests of the Arab States.”

In addition, the two officials agreed to intensify and strengthen coordination between Algeria, as the host country of the next Arab Summit, and the General Secretariat of the League, in order to make this important meeting successful,” said the source.
