ALGIERS – Thursday, 06 July 2023 (APS) – The President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired a ceremony on Wednesday evening at the Circle of People’s National Army to mark the 61st anniversary of Independence and Youth Day.

 

“On the occasion of the 61st anniversary of Independence Day, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense, chaired a reception at the National Circle of the People’s National Army in Beni Messous (Algiers) on the evening of Wednesday, July 05, 2023, a reception ceremony in honor of active and retired senior officers of the Army, in the presence of senior State officials and guests from Algeria’s friends of the Glorious Algerian Revolution,” said the Ministry of National Defense in a statement.

“The President of the Republic was welcomed at the entrance to the Army National Circle by Army General Said Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army,” said the source.

“The President of the Council of the Nation (Upper House), the President of the People’s National Assembly (Lower House), the President of the Constitutional Court, the Prime Minister and members of the Government, as well as Army General Benali BENALI, took part in this ceremony, which is part of the great traditions of the People’s National Army, aimed at highlighting the key dates in our glorious history, and paying tribute to our valiant martyrs, Commander of the Republican Guard, the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defense, the Commanders of the Forces, the Commander of the National Gendarmerie, the Heads of Departments, Directors, and Heads of Central Services of the Ministry of National Defense and the General Staff of the People’s National Army, alongside senior State officials, national personalities and mujahideen,” said the source.

According to the same source, “the audience listened to the national anthem performed by a musical troupe from the Republican Guard, and watched a documentary film entitled “Algeria…Challenges and Victories,” produced by the Directorate of Information and Communication. The participants also  visited a photographic exhibition retracing the various stages of our Glorious Revolution, from its outbreak to independence.”

The ceremony ended with a fireworks display to mark the occasion.
