ALGIERS – Minister of Energy and Mines Mohamed Arkab presented Monday, in Vienna, in the 66th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Algeria’s strategy and programmes in atomic energy, the ministry said in a statement.

 

During this 66th session, whose works kicked off on Monday and will continue until 30 September, Arkab underlined the implementation of the provisions of the law 19-05 of 17 July 2019 on nuclear activities, notably the setting up of the National Nuclear Safety and Security Authority,” said the source.

He notably pointed out “Algeria’s commitment to the international and regional legal framework of disarmament and non-proliferation, including the Treaty of Pelindaba and the support to the activities of the African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE),” said the source.

Arkab mentioned the cooperation projects between Algeria and the brotherly African countries in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy, notably as part of the African Regional Cooperative Agreement for Research, Development and Training related to Nuclear Science and Technology (AFRA).
