NEW YORK (United Nations) – Thursday, 30 March 2023 (APS) – UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday expressed his admiration for president Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s global view of world affairs, welcoming the president’s continued commitment and his role in the promotion of regional and international peace and stability.
At the end of his mission as Algeria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Nadir Larbaoui held discussion with Guterres, stressing the cooperation between Algeria and the UN as well as regional and international issues.
Guterres commended the special relationship between Algeria and the United Nations, dubbing it exemplary, asking Larbaoui to convey his warm greetings to President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and expressing his admiration for his global view of world affairs.
The UN chief underlined the head of State’s keen understanding of international affairs, describing it as “increasingly rare.”
He said that he keeps in mind the deep discussions he had with the president at the Arab Summit in Algiers, on 1-2 November 2022.
Guterres welcomed President Tebboune’s continued commitment and his role in the promotion of regional and international peace and stability.
The discussions were also an opportunity to tackle Western Sahara issue, and the support to the work of UN secretary general’s special, Staffan de Mistura.
The Libya crisis and the situation in the Sahel, especially in Mali, were also at the heart of the discussions between the two sides.
The UN chief welcomed Algeria’s efforts and position of principle for a quick settlement of crises.
