ALGIERS – Monday, 04 September 2023 (APS) – The President of the Council of the Nation (Upper House), Salah Goudjil called on Monday for the consolidation of the home front in line with the initiative of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to meet the challenges facing Algeria.

In a speech delivered at the opening of the 2023/2024 ordinary parliamentary session, Goudjil emphasized “the need to strengthen the home front as a concrete expression of the President of the Republic’s initiative,” asserting that “Algeria needs a strong home front to confront the enemies from abroad who are, today, out in the open.”

The President of the Council of the Nation also hailed “the fulfilment by the President of the Republic of his 54 commitments, on the basis of which he extended his hand to all for the building of the new Algeria.”

“The first of these commitments was fulfilled with the amendment of the Constitution, thus giving full meaning to democratic practice and the right of expression while preserving the social character of the Algerian state,” recalled the Upper House speaker.

Referring to the President of the Republic’s initiative to resolve the crisis in Niger, Goudjil assured that “it was based on the rejection of foreign interference in the internal affairs of countries,” pointing out that the tour of some African countries by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, “highlights Algeria’s position on the international stage.”

Algeria “does not accept interference in its internal affairs and does not interfere in the affairs of other countries. This strategy upsets many people,” he affirmed.
