ALGIERS – Friday, 19 August 2022 (APS) – Several Arab countries expressed, on Thursday, their support and solidarity with Algeria following the fires recorded in different provinces in the north-east of the country which caused dozens of victims.

 

Following this tragedy, President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune received a phone call on Thursday from his brother, Tunisian President Kais Saied, during which he offered his sincere condolences for the victims of the fires recorded in the country’s provinces, and assured him of Tunisia’s support and solidarity, a brother country.

For his part, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Ben Hamed Al-Thani sent to President Tebboune a similar message of condolences, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.

President Tebboune also received a message of condolence from Mahmoud Abbas, his Palestinian counterpart.

“We are following with great concern the news relating to the current fires in a number of provinces in the north-east of Algeria, a brother country, which have caused deaths and dozens of injuries among the children of our dear Algeria, in addition to the destruction of hundreds of hectares of forest wealth”, said the Palestinian president in his message, expressing his full solidarity with Algeria.

Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit also offered/presented in a Tweet, his “sincere condolences to Algeria, its President, government and people, for the victims of the fires,” wishing “a speedy recovery to the wounded” and so that “Algeria shall be protected against any evil or prejudice.”

Egypt affirmed, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its “full support for Algeria, a brother country in this painful ordeal.”

The United Arab Emirates, expressed, as well, its sincere condolences to Algeria, people and government, and relatives of the victims of this disaster, wishing a speedy recovery to all the injured.

Other countries, including Syria, Jordan, Yemen and Bahrain expressed their sincere condolences to Algeria’s current tragic situation.
