ALGIERS – Monday, 06 November 2023 (APS) – The president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, said Monday in Algiers that “we cannot take advantage of the exercise of rights to justify abuses, insults and malicious rumours to undermine security and stability.”

In an opening address at the opening of the judicial year 2023-2024, President Tebboune said “the rights enjoyed by individuals have corresponding duties and freedom comes with responsibility,” stressing that “we cannot take advantage of the exercise of rights to justify abuses, insults and malicious rumours to undermine security and stability.”

The president of the Republic reiterated his determination to “continue the establishment of the foundations of the rule of law, based on justice and equality, with citizenship as the basis for the State’s dealing with its children.”

President Tebboune raised the change to the legal system, citing the reform of many laws to adapt them to the Constitution and fulfill his commitments to the people, especially the ‎moralization of public life.

The president of the Republic commended the legislative institution’ efforts to accompany the government for a comprehensive legislative reform adapted to the rapid dynamics of society “according to an inclusive and integrated vision in line with the measures for national recovery and the expected change.”

“The establishment of the rule of law requires a continuous and constant work, with the development and the moralisation of an effective legal action to ensure justice for citizens and protect them against abuse and bias.”
