ALGIERS – Monday, 04 April 2022 (APS) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ramtane Lamamra will start on Monday a visit to Moscow, alongside Foreign ministers of the Arab Contact Group, in order to initiate discussions with the Russian side about the conflict in Ukraine, a ministerial statement said on Sunday.

 

“Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ramtane Lamamra will start on Monday a visit to Moscow, alongside Foreign ministers of Jordan, Sudan, Iraq and Egypt, in addition to the Secretary General of the Arab League, in order to initiate discussions with the Russian side on the conflict in Ukraine. This visit will followed by a visit to Warsaw (Poland) to meet the Ukrainian side,” said the source.

On this occasion, added the source, “the Arab ministers will take note of the two sides’ positions and concerns, in the light of recent security and political developments of the Ukrainian crisis, and will broach ways trough which the contact group could contribute to the appeasement efforts, in order to bring the views closer for a rapid political solution based on the principles of the international law and the United Nations Charter and which takes into consideration the concerns of all the parties.”

This visit is part of the action programme of the Arab Contact Group at the ministerial level, whose creation was approved by the Arab League Council of ministers during its 157th session, held on 9 March in Cairo, to follow and lead discussions and the necessary contacts with the sides concerned by the Ukrainian issue, in order to help find a diplomatic solution to the crisis.
