ALGIERS – Thursday, 09 June 2022 (APS) – Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security Youcef Cherfa presented on Wednesday, in Geneva, the measures taken by the Algerian State to alleviate the negative socio-economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, notably the support provided to the debtors of the social insurance funds.

 

In a meeting with the director general of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Guy Ryder, on the sidelines of the 110th session of the International Labour Conference, held currently in Geneva, Cherfa emphasized the measures taken by the Algerian State to alleviate the negative socio-economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, notably the support provided to the debtors of the social insurance funds through, he said, “the deferral of payment of contributions, spacing out of their debts and the suspension then abolition of penalties resulting from late payment contributions,” the ministry said Thursday in a statement.

In this regard, the minister broached the approach aimed to enable those who wish to create a company to benefit from a special leave, the increase in the national guaranteed minimum wage (SNMG), the abolition of the tax on the total income for a category of salaries, the increase in the retirement pensions, the creation of the unemployment allowance with the  social security coverage and assistance to job seekers, as well as the amendement of the law on the procedure of exercising the union right.

For his part, ILO’s director hailed the measures taken by Algeria in the field of labor, employment and social security, notably those aimed at preserving and promoting jobs and protecting the tools of production, welcoming what has been achieved in 2021-2022, notably in terms of fight against unemployment.
