ALGIERS – Monday, 25 September 2023 (APS) – The speaker of the People’s National Assembly Brahim Boughali received Sunday, in Algiers, Minister of State for Women’s Affairs at Libya’s Government of National Unity Houria Termal and the delegation accompanying her, in the presence of Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Affairs Kaouter Krikou, the Assembly said in a statement.

At the beginning of this meeting, Boughali presented, once again, “his condolences to the brotherly Libyan people, following the disaster of the recent floods which hit it,” affirming “Algeria’s full solidarity in this painful ordeal,” said the source.

The speaker of the People’s National Assembly reviewed the state of the historical relations between the two countries, underlining, in this regard, “the Libyan people’s support to the Algeria people during the glorious war of liberation.”

As regards the Libyan crisis, Boughali emphasized “Algeria’s position that rejects any interference in its domestic affairs,” calling for a solution “in line with the international legitimacy and the UN Charters.”

Algeria “welcomes all the initiates aimed to support the process of elections and unification of the Libyan people’s ranks and their official institutions,  while respecting this country’s sovereignty and its territorial integrity,” added Boughali.

In this regard, he underscored the geopolitical challenges facing north Africa, like “the growing phenomenon of terrorism, violent extremism and illegal migration, in addition to the threats weighing on the region following the infiltration attempts of the Zionsit entity,” reaffirming “Algeria’s unchanging position over the just causes of the Palestinian and Sahrawi peoples.”

At the parliamentary level, Boughali reaffirmed the readiness of the People’s National Assembly “to work with the Libyan brothers to strengthen the parliamentary cooperation and friendship ties, by exchanging experiences and expertise at all levels,” stressing “the importance of promoting cooperation in the economic fields, by encouraging investment and increasing the volume of trading.”

For her part, Termal welcomed the level of bilateral relations and hailed Algeria “which supports Libya in all circumstances,” expressing her gratitude for Algeria’s solidarity with the Libyan people in the ordeal it is experiencing.

The Libyan minister underlined “Libya’s concern to work for the development of the bilateral relations and the promotion of the joint cooperation in different fields,” said the source.
