ALGIERS – Tuesday, 22 August 2023 (APS) – The President of the People’s National Assembly (Lower House), Brahim Boughali, was received on Tuesday in Teheran by the Iranian President, Ebrahim Raissi, to whom he conveyed the greetings of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, according to a press release from the assembly.
During the audience, Boughali recalled “the fraternal ties between the Algerian and Iranian peoples”.
In this connection, the Iranian President stressed “the importance of parliamentary cooperation,” which he described as “support for cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the economic sphere”.
He also hoped that the two countries would “take concrete steps in the economic field, commensurate with the good political relations between the two countries.”
President Raissi also stressed “the importance of holding the Iran-Algeria Joint Economic Committee as soon as possible”, praising Algeria’s positions under the leadership of Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Muslim nation issues, including the Palestinian cause, describing them as “unchanging, frank and clear.”
At the same time, the Iranian President welcomed Algeria’s election as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, calling it “a precious opportunity to defend the Nation’s just causes.”
Raissi also pointed out that Iran “is working to establish peace and security in the region, and considers dialogue to be the solution to all current crises”, stressing that “the question of security is linked to non-interference in the internal affairs of countries.”
The Iranian President also expressed “his deep regard for the Algerian revolution and the struggle of the Algerian people against colonization”, according to the press release.
For his part, Boughali thanked the Iranian President for the warm welcome he had received, and for the fruitful discussions he had held with Iranian officials, citing the many areas of bilateral economic cooperation.
In this regard, he affirmed “President Tebboune’s readiness to develop the national economy through the opportunities offered by the new investment law, which should be seized.”
On this occasion, the Lower House speaker reaffirmed “his commitment to the enhancement of parliamentary action the reactivation of UPCI’s role to address the challenges facing the Muslim Nation, and in the face of all forms of profanation.”
