ALGIERS – Thursday, 25 May 2023 (APS) – The minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, received Thursday in Algiers the speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Nelly Butete Kashumba Mutti, who is on an official visit to Algeria, the ministry said in a statement.
The two sides discussed the ways to “give a fresh impetus to relations between Algeria and Zambia, mainly through the enhancement of the common historical heritage of the two countries, resulting from their struggle against colonization, solidarity with and support of African causes and issues as well as the political and economic aspirations,” the statement said.
The two sides stressed the role of parliamentary diplomacy as a significant lever for the strengthening of the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
They also emphasized the importance of dialogue and consultations and to foster agreement and consensus.
The two sides underlined the need to modernise and develop the legal framework and the mechanisms of bilateral cooperation, to take advantage of the opportunities of economic exchanges offered as part of the “African Continental Free Trade Area” (AfCFTA), the statement concluded.
