ALGIERS – Friday, 22 September 2023 (APS) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ahmed Attaf receives a high-level American diplomatic delegation led by Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, on the sidelines of his participation in the ministerial meeting of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the ministry said Friday in a statement.

 

The American delegation comprised the Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf, Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations Michele Sison and the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Catherine Phee.

“The discussions between the two sides focused on several issues included in the agenda of the General Assembly of the current session, notably the developments of the crisis in the Niger and prospects for strengthening the diplomatic efforts in light of the peaceful settlement initiative proposed by the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune,” said the source.

The discussions were also about “the latest developments of the Malian crisis and ways to intensify efforts to pacify the situation and enable the Malian parties to implement the agreement for peace and reconciliation stemming from Algiers process,” added the source.

Attaf held bilateral talks with Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf on the development of the crisis in Libya.

The two sides reaffirmed the support of the two countries to the efforts of the UN envoy Abdoulay Bathily.
