ALGIERS – Thursday, 04 May 2023 (APS) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf held Thursday a meeting with his Libyan counterpart, Najla Al-Mangoush, during which he reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to supporting stability and unity of Libya, said the ministry in a statement.

The two ministers co-chaired, in the presence of delegations from both countries, a working session on the prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation, the opening of two border crossings, land, sea and air transport, joint investments, and management of groundwater, said the statement.

The two sides discussed issues of common interest on the Maghreb and Arab scenes, including “developments of the Sahrawi issue and Arab and international initiatives to stop hostilities and end the bloodshed in Sudan.”

After listening to a presentation by Al-Mangoush on the latest developments in the political process led by the United Nations to end the crisis in Libya, Attaf reaffirmed “the commitment of Algeria to support the stability and unity of this brotherly country and its efforts to reach consensus among the children of the same country in order to advance the process of parliamentary and presidential elections.

At the end of the talks, the two FMs expressed “their satisfaction with the convergence of views and positions of the two brotherly countries”, and stressed “their commitment to perpetuate the tradition of coordination and political consultation and to intensify joint efforts to boost bilateral cooperation in various fields.”

Libya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Najla Al-Mangoush arrived Wednesday evening in Algiers for a working visit, leading a large delegation including the Minister of Transport and the Chairman of the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA).
