ALGIERS – Wednesday, 13 September 2023 (APS) – The minister of foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, received Wednesday a phone call from his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani, in which they discussed the current situation in the Sahel region, the ministry said in a statement.
Attaf informed his Italian counterpart of “the encouraging reactions the initiative of President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune on the political settlement of the Niger Crisis is receiving,” the statement said.
The Italian minister renewed his country’s support for a political solution to the crisis, “with a particular emphasis on the proposal of an international conference on the development in the Sahel.”
“The deteriorating situation in Mali is also at the centre of exchanges between the two ministers, whose views converged on the need to begin, as quickly as possible, the implementation of the agreement on peace and reconciliation in Mali, which was the outcome of Algiers process,” the Foreign ministry’s statement said.
