ALGIERS – Saturday, 23 September 2023 (APS) – The minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, on Friday, in New York, held discussions with senior officials of many international and regional organizations, as part of his participation in the ministerial segment of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), the ministry said Saturday in a statement.

Attaf met successively with the president of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Omar Touray, the secretary-general of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the vice-president of the European Commission, Josep Borrell and the UN under-secretary-general for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the source said.

The discussions focused on “cooperation and partnership between Algeria and those organizations and the prospects for their strengthening, to effectively contribute to the achievement of peace, security and development in the region, in the light of our country’s efforts to promote dialogue to alleviate the situation and resolve the ongoing crises in Libya, Mali and Niger,” the ministry’s statement concluded.
