ALGIERS – Thursday, 08 June 2023 (APS) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, received on Wednesday a telephone call from the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Abdoulaye Bathily, with whom he discussed developments in the political and security situation in Libya, said the ministry in a statement.

During this telephone conversation, the two heads of state and government discussed “developments in the political and security situation in Libya, a neighbouring country, particularly with regard to the efforts made by the UN to enable the Libyan parties reach a definitive solution to the crisis,” said the source.

In this regard, Attaf reaffirmed Algeria’s permanent support for the UN’s efforts to assist the Libyan parties in drawing up the necessary agreements to hold the presidential and parliamentary elections as  soon as possible, the same source added.

At the end of their telephone conversation, the two parties agreed to continue talks, particularly during the forthcoming visit to Algeria of the UN SG’s special representative at the invitation of the Foreign Minister, the same source added.
