ALGIERS – Wednesday, 18 October 2023 (APS) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, received Nigerian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adamu Lamuwa, in Algiers on Wednesday, on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of African-Nordic Countries, according to a statement issued by the ministry.
The talks focused mainly on “bilateral relations as part of the preparations for the holding of the Joint Commission, the relaunch of the air transport agreement between the two countries and the acceleration of the pace of implementation of structural projects linking Algeria to Nigeria and to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS),” the source said.
The two parties further discussed “developments regarding the crisis in Niger and the prospects for cooperation between the two countries to promote a return to constitutional and democratic order in this sister country,” the source added.
In a statement to the press after the meeting, the Nigerian official praised the quality of Algerian-Nigerian relations, saying that “as Nigerians, we are convinced that we can do more in terms of cooperation.”
He also said that the talks “covered economic aspects, bilateral relations and a number of international conflicts.”
“We agreed to work to strengthen our partnership in various areas, including energy, the trans-Saharan road and the trans-Saharan fibre optic backbone,” he added.
