ALGIERS – Thursday, 10 August 2023 (APS) – The discussions between Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ahmed Attaf and his American counterpart Antony J. Blinken, held Wednesday, in Washington, focused on the Algerian-American partnership and several issues of common interest, said the US Secretary of State.  

“I met with the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf to discuss the American-Algerian partnership and consult on shared priorities, notably the stability in the Sahel,” said Blinken in a tweet

“We also affirmed our full support to the UN political process for Western Sahara,” he said.

The spokesperson for the US Department of State Matt Miller said that Antony J. Blinken reiterated his full support to the efforts of the special envoy of UN Secretary General Staffan de Mistura, in his consultations with the concerned sides to reach a political solution in Western Sahara.

Antony J. Blinken congratulated Ahmed Attaf after the election of Algeria to the Security Council and underlined the willingness of the United States to work closely with Algeria on all the issues dealt with by the Security Council, added the spokesperson of the Department of State.
