ALGIERS – Saturday, 23 September 2023 (APS) – The minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, on Friday in New York attended a ministerial meeting of the representatives of the five countries to be members of the UN Security Council (UNSC) from next January 1st, the ministry said Saturday in a statement.

“The minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, attended today, in New York, a ministerial meeting of the representatives of the five countries that will join the UN Security Council from next January 1st,” the ministry’s statement said.

The five countries, namely “Algeria, the Republic of Korea, Slovenia, Sierra Leone and Guyana, were elected by the UN General Assembly last June as non-permanent members of the Security Council for the period of 2024-2025.”

In the meeting, the Foreign ministers of the five countries discussed topics relating to the preparation for the UN Security Council membership as well as the ways of coordination and cooperation with the rest of the non-permanent members.
