ALGIERS – Monday, 13 November 2023 (APS) – Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), was received on Monday, the 2nd day of his official visit to China, by Army General Liu Zhenli, Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission of the People’s Republic of China, the Ministry of National Defence said in a statement.

“As part of his official visit to the People’s Republic of China, Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the ANP, was received on November 13, 2023 at the headquarters of the Central Military Commission by Army General Liu Zhenli, Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission of the People’s Republic of China, where a military formation of the Chinese Army honoured him,” said the source.

After the performance of the two countries’ national anthems, the Army General inspected the squares of the various Chinese Armed Forces.

This was followed by an extended meeting with members of the two countries’ delegations.

On this occasion, Army General Saïd Chanegriha expressed his “deep gratitude for the hospitality granted to him and the accompanying delegation.”

“It is my pleasure on this honourable occasion to renew to you and to all those present my high regard and my heartfelt thanks for the warm welcome and hospitality you have granted to us since our arrival in this friendly country, which reflect the authenticity of our bilateral military cooperation relations that are based on the two countries’ historical heritage, with all that it carries in terms of political, strategic and human depth,” said the Chief of Staff of the ANP.

The Army General also stressed “the excellence of the long-standing relations between the two countries, which date back to the glorious Revolution of 1 November 1954,” adding that the People’s Republic of China was “among the first countries to support the Algerian people’s struggle for their right to self-determination at the Bandung Conference in 1955, and the first non-Arab country to recognize the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic, as soon as its creation was announced on 19 September 1958.”

The Army General went on to say that “the close relations between Algeria and China are reflected in all the honourable positions shared by the two countries.”

” Given these distinguished relations, based on joint militant solidarity in favour of sovereignty and independent decision-making, the struggle for justice and freedom are, in this respect, still relevant, particularly in a world that is increasingly moving towards unprecedented multipolarity and towards a new global distribution of power, far from hegemonic orientations based on exclusion, on attempts to impose agendas and on the weakening of the political choices of States,” he stressed.

These talks were also an opportunity for the two parties to “exchange views on issues of common interest and examine ways of consolidating military and security cooperation between the two countries,” concluded the National Defence Ministry.
