GENEVA (Switzerland) – Saturday, 10 June 2023 (APS) – The chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Duarte Pacheco, congratulated the president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on Algeria’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2024-2025, stressing that “the experience and leadership of Algeria in the fight against terrorism will be very useful to this UN body in terms of peacekeeping.

“Dear Mr. President, I am writing to you in my capacity as the head ‎of the IPU to express, on my own behalf and on behalf of the international parliamentary organization, my warmest congratulations on the recent election of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria‎ as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the biennium 2024-2025,” Duarte Pacheco wrote Friday in his letter.

The chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in his letter to President Tebboune, said he was “sure that Algeria’s experience and leadership in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism will be very useful to the UN body’s peacekeeping role.”

“It is in such a spirit that I would like to reiterate to you my warmest congratulations on your election.”

“I seize this opportunity to congratulate you, Mr. President, on your recent designation, by the African Union, as leader of the fight against terrorisme in Africa,” Pacheco said.

 “It is a deserved recognition of your experience and that of Algeria in these very important tasks.”
