ALGIERS – Monday, 22 May 2023 (APS) – Algeria-Zambia Parliamentary Friendship Group was set up Monday at the People’s National Assembly (lower house of Parliament), as part of the development of friendship ties between the two countries and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the economic and commercial fields, a National Assembly’s statement said.

The chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Community at the People’s National Assembly, Salim Merah, said the installation of the group “has a special significance, as it coincides with the visit of the speaker of the Zambia’s National Assembly to Algeria, leading a delegation including the head of the Parliamentary friendship group with Algeria.”

Merah expressed his wish that the group would be “an additional lever for the development of friendship relations between the two countries and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the economic and commercial fields.”

He stressed Algeria’s determination to “continue the ambitious reforms initiated by the president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, by accelerating the pace of mega projects in all fields.”

He underlined “the desire of Algerian officials to enhance cooperation between the two countries.”

The head of Algeria-Zambia parliamentary friendship group said such groups are “communication channels and ways to deepen dialogue ‎,” with the aim of “strengthening relations of friendship and cooperation and are opportunities for exchange of information and expertise in the political, economic, social and cultural fields between Parliaments.”

He welcomed “coordination and mutual support between the two Pan-African Parliament (PAP) member countries, especially consultations on security and political issues to face terrorist threats and contribute to the establishment of security and peace in Africa.”
