ALGIERS – Wednesday, 15 November 2023 (APS) – Minister of Mujahedeen and Rights Holders Laid Rebiga affirmed Tuesday, in Accra (Ghana), Algeria’s support to the move aimed at claiming compensation for the colonial crimes in Africa.
Speaking during the activities of the international Conference organized under the theme “building a unified front to revive the issues of justice and give compensation to Africans,” Rebiga affirmed that Algeria “has always supported the move aimed to claim complete compensation for the colonial crimes committed in Africa, and to end the denial and impunity policy,” calling to “attribute to the colonizer the complete responsibility of plundering the resources and the economic backwardness.”
“Algeria backed the African collective effort vis-à-vis the issue of compensating Africans, and is in favor of an African consensus on these compensations,” said the minister, adding that Algeria “is ready to contribute to the adoption of standards, likely to obtain the adequate compensations.”
He also stressed that Algeria, through its mandate as a non-permanent member at the Security Council, seeks to “present a decisive approach in order to reform the UN bodies, notably the Security Council, by obtaining the right to a fair representation of the African peoples within international decision-making bodies.”
He reaffirmed “Algeria’s commitment, under the leadership of the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to carry on the action in accordance with informed mechanisms that consider all aspects. This includes addressing all the historical issues using scientific and practical approaches, for which all the players in the historical and legal fields were mobilized.”
The Minister of Mujahideen further mentioned “the appalling massacres and genocides committed by the Zionist entity against the Palestinian people amidst a deafening worldwide silence,” noting that Algeria “which will always stand by the Palestinian people, in words and actions, calls all regional and international parties to work towards halting this aggression.”
He reiterated “Algeria’s unwavering position backing the right of peoples to self-determination, freedom and independence, especially the Palestinian and Sahrawi peoples.”
