ALGIERS – Thursday, 29 September 2022 (APS) – Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohamed Abdelhafid Henni stressed Wednesday, in Algiers, on the occasion of the holding of the 10th Algerian-Russian Joint Committee on Economic, commercial, scientific and technical Cooperation, the need to intensify joint investments between the two countries and to transfer technology and expertise.

Co-chairing the works of this session with Russia’s Minister of Agriculture, Dmitry Patrushev, Henni said that “the establishment of a mutually beneficial partnership between Algeria and Russia inevitably involves the support of bilateral investments and the transfer of technology and expertise.”

Highlighting the importance of working together to facilitate business relations between the economic operators of the two countries, the Minister noted that bilateral cooperation in the institutional and economic fields “is essential to reflect the two countries’ capacities, particularly in economy.”

Algeria grants “particular interest” to strengthening high-level bilateral dialogue in accordance with the Declaration of Strategic Partnership signed in April 2001 in Moscow, which gave “an exceptional and important dimension to the Algerian-Russian relations,” added the source.

Regarding agriculture, he said that Algeria’s clear strategy aims to ensure its food sovereignty and steer towards exports, adding that there are “promising prospects” for the bilateral partnership in the fields of cereals, seeds, seedlings, oilseeds, food, genetic improvement, animal production and animal and plant health.

As for the energy field, the minister affirmed that the Algerian government is ready to strengthen relations between the two countries’ companies to examine new cooperation opportunities in various fields of common interest.

For his part, the Russian minister affirmed that Algeria is one of his country’s main partners in Africa, adding that this bilateral cooperation is “based on trust and respect.”
