ALGIERS – Saturday, 15 July 2023 (APS) – Algeria and the State of Qatar enjoy privileged fraternal relations, marked by constant consultation on a number of Arab, regional and international issues. These relations are set to be further boosted during the working visit to the sisterly country by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on Saturday and Sunday.
Indeed, Algeria-Qatar relations have undergone unprecedented development in recent years, driven by the determination of the leaders of both countries to raise them to higher levels.
Meetings, bilateral talks, consultations and exchanges of visits between the President of the Republic and his brother the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, have all contributed to the strengthening and development of these exceptional relations.
President Tebboune’s visit to Qatar in February 2022 was an important milestone, helping to usher in a new era in relations between the two brotherly countries under a strategic partnership based on mutual trust.
The visit of the Emir of the State of Qatar to Algeria in February 2020 also contributed to the consolidation of bilateral cooperation at all levels, notably business, with Qatari investments rising sharply in several sectors.
On several occasions, President Tebboune has described Algeria-Qatar relations as fraternal and excellent, while the Qatari Head of State has praised Algeria’s role at regional and Arab levels, as well as its rich record of achievements in conflict resolution.
In 2022, the two countries took important steps towards strengthening their joint action and developing cooperation in various fields.
Algeria and Qatar have signed memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements, including one on the establishment of political consultations and coordination between the two countries foreign ministries, another on legal and judicial cooperation, in addition to several conventions in the tourism, crafts, healthcare and higher education sectors.
In addition to the inauguration, in the summer of 2022, of the direct Algiers-Doha air route, the two countries have launched projects to build an Algerian-Qatari-German hospital, and to extend the Algerian Qatari Steel (AQS) complex in Bellara (province of Jijel).
