ALGIERS – Tuesday, 29 August 2023 (APS) – The minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, said Tuesday that Algeria had no responsibility in the freezing of the work of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), which was the result of a request made by Abdellatif Filali who was then Morocco’s former Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

“The Maghreb action was frozen during my first term as Foreign Minister, in 1995, following a written request by Morocco’s Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Filali,” Attaf told a news conference at the Abdelatif-Rahal International Conference Centre of Algiers.

“Algeria has no responsibility in the freezing of the AMU action.”

“There has been no change in the conditions. They have even deteriorated. So, it is difficult to talk today about the revival of the Arab Maghreb Union,” the Foreign Minister stressed.
